The treasure map open in Cabane, with its drawn landmarks and cross.
Clapotis’s map: a stretch of coast, a compass rose and a cross to find.

To go treasure hunting, find Clapotis on his beach and buy his map for forty coins. The pirate otter pulls his boat up onto the sand at every stopover and sells just one map per visit. On the sheet: a stretch of coastline, a landmark and a cross.

Find Clapotis’s boat

Switch on a radio. “Clapotis the pirate has pulled his boat onto a beach,” it says, along with the direction and distance from the set. If it answers “No pirate boats on our shores at the moment,” be patient: he will be back.

Read the map

The map shows the real surroundings of the treasure in your world. The cross is not always in the middle. If a village falls inside the frame, use it as your landmark. If not, look for a peak, a headland or a mound.

Keep an eye on the compass rose. Before following the cross, work out where the water is: which side the shore runs along, where the coast turns, what high ground rises behind it. Compare those shapes with the landscape as you walk.

The treasure can be anywhere from a hundred and fifty to four hundred blocks from the boat. Make room in your bag before you set off, you will need it on the way back!

Dig under the cross

The chest is buried just below the surface, under a single layer of dirt, sand or grass. Clapotis always picks open ground, often near a shore, and never under anything you have built. A few swings in the right spot will do it.

“Clapotis’s treasure! His map worked.” Open the chest: there are always coins inside. With luck you will also find gold ingots, amber or amethyst, sapphires or cannonballs. Sometimes a creature capsule or a vinyl record. And, very rarely, a cannon, a boat or a palm tree!

Heading out with friends? Good news: for the same stopover, everyone is looking for the same chest. Meet on the beach at game.playcabane.com, Clapotis is waiting.
