Light up your lamps with the wind
A wind turbine, an electric pole, a lamp and a lever: build your first circuit, then add pistons and trapdoors.

To light a lamp, you need two things: power and a signal. The wind supplies the power through a wind turbine. A lever connected by a wire sends the signal. Pull it down, and the light comes on!
Put up a wind turbine
Pick a windy spot. A radio can help: “Strong winds here: a good spot for a wind turbine.” The turbine produces power according to the wind at that moment. When the wind drops, so does the power.
Next, put up electric poles. Poles within reach link up with overhead cables, and each one widens the area where your devices can draw power. Before you place a pole, its preview shows how far it reaches.
Bring the power to the lamp
Place the lamp inside the area the network covers. Every device shows how many watts it needs, so you can compare that with what your network still has to spare. Plug lots of lamps into a single turbine and the last one may stay dark on a breezy day.

Run the wire from the lever
The control wire is laid on the ground. It joins up with its neighbours on its own and can even climb a step. At the far end, your lever stays where you put it: once it is down, the lamp stays on.
Fancy a different trigger? A button or a pressure plate connected to the wire can control your devices too.
Add pistons and trapdoors
A trapdoor, like a lamp, shows straight away that the circuit works. A piston pushes a block one space. The sticky version pulls it back, and vertical pistons work upwards.
Start with a simple block, such as planks or bricks. Chests and large objects that take up several spaces stay where they are. Flip the lever, watch the block move, then add the next mechanism.
